Granulocyte Colony-Stimulating Factor and Its Receptor

Novosibirsk oblast, Russia Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) is the major growth factor responsible for regulating in vivo granulopoiesis and is used to treat neutropenia. Biological effects of G-CSF are mediated through the G-CSF receptor (G-CSFR), which forms active homooligomeric complexes upon ligand binding. This review summarized the current knowledge of the ligand-receptor complex structure, function, and signaling mechanisms of the G-CSFR. It also addresses the molecular mechanisms of disorders of granulopoiesis. These data are likely to be important in the development of novel hematologic drugs and treatment strategies.
