Gene: [01p32/RLF] rearranged L-myc fusion protein;

COM

The sequence, included in this entry, corresponds only partly to the gene/protein in question since so far complete cDNA of the gene has not been yet published."

SUM

This protein is related to members of the MYC family. Initially, it was revealed as a part of chimeric polypeptides with amino-terminal sequences derived from a novel gene, named RLF (Rearranged Lmyc Fusion) since its protein has been found to be linked with the Lmyc protein only in cells with an amplified LMYC gene (Makela-1991). Also, since the chimeric products of the RLF/MYCL fusion gene were found in different small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC) cell lines, the authors suggested a role for the fusion protein in oncogenesis. The authors cloned a cDNA encoding the MYCLRF protein itself, and also established a physical linkage between this gene and L-myc-1 on Chr 1 within the band p32. The both genes appeared to be separated by less than 800 kb."

probably be 'Makela' as in the original publication.\
/Note_2: The following comment is selected from this emb:entry -
'A breakpoint is found at position 249 bp, and corresponds to nu-
cleotide 796 L-myc of Kaye F, Battey J, Nau M, Brooks B, Seifter E,
De Greve J, Birrer M, Sausville E and Minna J. Mol Cell Biol, 8,

However, without additional clarifications, this comment may orig-
inates a confusion (see '/Note:' in 'Sequence' below).\

<* SEQUENCE:> [cDNA= 300 bp]
/Note: The most probable site of the mentioned 'break-fusion_point' is
restricted by nucleotides #246|247, in the ref1 sequence, and by
#792|793, in the ref2 sequence, where ref2 is (Kaye F &:1988).
Also, in the ref2 sequence, seg(784..795) is a terminal segment of
the intron A (or 1) while seg(796..804) is a 5'-untranslated part
of the exon 2 (see 'Gene_structure' in GEM:01p32/MYCL1).
Thus, the L-myc-1's part begins at the position #83 in the fusion
protein, or at the position #259 in the nucleotide sequence below.\
