Gene: [04p14/UCHL1] ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal esterase L1 (neuron-specific);
FUN | [1]
Ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal esterase is involved in the processing of
ubiquitin precursors and ubiquinated proteins. This enzyme is a thiol
protease that recognizes and hydrolyses a peptide bond at the C-terminal
glycine of ubiquitin. [2] The catalyzed reaction: ubiquitin c-terminal thiolester + H(2)O = ubiquitin + a thiol." |
TIS | Ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal esterase is expressed in neurons and cells of the diffuse neuroendocrine system and the respective tumours. 0.5 to 1% of this fraction is accounted for by soluble brain proteins." |
