Gene: [10q23/SNCG] synuclein, gamma (persyn); breast cancer-specific protein 1; [BCSG1 PRSN ]
COM |
The SNCG gene was mapped to Chr 10q23 by radiation hybrid analysis and fluorescence in situ hybridization (Lavedan-1998). Later the SNCG (persyn) gene was mapped to 10q23.2-q23.3 by FISH (Ninkina-1998)." |
FUN |
Persyn is a recently identified member of the synuclein family. As with other synucleins, persyn is believed to be involved in the pathogenesis of human neurodegenerative diseases. However, in contrast to other synucleins, high levels of persyn mRNA expression were also found in advanced breast carcinomas, suggesting an involvement of the encoded protein in breast tumour progression (Ji-1997; Ninkina-1998)." |
MOP |
Persyn shares all the main structural features of alpha--synuclein (GEM:04q2/SNCA) (Ji-1997) and beta-synuclein (GEM:05q35/SNCB) (Ninkina-1998), but has a distinctive pattern of expression during pre- and postnatal development of the peripheral and central nervous systems." |
