Gene: [11q1/CD20] antigen CD20 (lymphocyte differentiation antigen B1/1F5); [1F5/B1 B1/1F5 ]

EXP

[1] Antigene B1, also known as CD20, is a human B-lymphocyte surface molecule that is widely expressed during B-cell ontogeny, from early pre-B-cell developmental stages until final differentiation into plasma cells. Although the exact role of B1 in vivo is unknown, functional studies using monoclonal antibodies have shown that antibody binding to B1 inhibits B-cell proliferation caused by mitogens and inhibits B-cell differentiation.
[2] Only the CD20 mAb was found to suppress the spontaneous apoptosis which occurs in human germinal center (GC) B cells when placed in tissue culture at 37 degrees C (Holder-1995)."

GEN

The gene length is 16 kb; exons: 8 (Tedder-1989b). Three mRNA fractions corresponding to this gene exist: a major one (2.8 kb) and two minor ones (2.6 and 3.4 kb) (Tedder-1988)."
