Gene: [17q1/APLB] acute promyelocytic leukemia breakpoint on chr 17;

 According to the international classification (FAB systematics - rench- merican-ritish Cooperative Group, Bennett-1976), this type of acute myelogenous leukemia (OML) is denoted as M3. It was demonstrated (Rowley-1977) that in almost all OML-M3 patients at the stage of promyelocytic crisis, the leukemic cells bear the chromosomal translocation involving long arms of chrs 17 and 15: t(15;17)(q22;q11.2-12)."

FAG

 Moore-1989 found a cluster of about 30 copies of a 18 kb nucleotide sequence in the region of APL-translocation breakpoint in chr 17. This cluster seems to be specific for chr 17. The revealed DNA repeats are scattered over 2 Mb region on both sides of the APL-breakpoint (for more details on these repeats, see GEM:17q1/D17Z2A)."
