SUM

Neuronal signals elicited by glutamate are processed by ionotropic (GRI) and metabotropic (GRM) subtypes of receptors. The ionotropic receptor group contains integral cation-specific ion channels and is further subdivided into 2 types, N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors (GRIN) and non-NMDA receptors (GRIA and GRIK). NMDA receptor channels are heteromers composed of the key receptor subunit NMDAR1 (GEM:09q343/GRIN1) and 1 or more of the 4 NMDAR2 subunits: NMDAR2A (GEM:16p13/GRIN2A), NMDAR2B (GEM:12p12/GRIN2B), NMDAR2C (GEM:17q25/GRIN2C), and NMDAR2D (GEM:19q13/GRIN2D)."
