SUM	Schafer-1995 isolated a YAC clone from 1q21 containing a tandem of of 9 different genes encoding for S100 calcium-binding proteins and introduced a new nomenclature for these genes based on the physical arrangement on the chromosome designated them S100A1 through S100A9 in a direction from telomere to centromere."
