TEXT

Cloning and Expression

Using the Drosophila even-skipped (eve) homeobox as a probe, Bastian and Gruss (1990) isolated 2 mouse genes containing an eve-type homeobox, Evx1 (142996) and Evx2. The Evx1 expression pattern during mouse embryogenesis was considered consistent with a role in establishing the anterioposterior embryonic axis.

D'Esposito et al. (1991) identified the human EVX2 gene, containing a homeobox homologous to the Drosophila eve homeobox identified by Macdonald et al. (1986).

Mapping

D'Esposito et al. (1991) identified the Evx2-type of homeobox on human chromosome 2, 13 kb upstream from HOX4I (142989). That the EVX2 sequences belong to an active gene was indicated by the fact that they are transcribed and properly processed in cells and tissues. In all, 9 homeoboxes are included in a 100-kb region of DNA on the long arm of human chromosome 2.

Bastian et al. (1992) demonstrated that the murine 'even-skipped-like' gene Evx2 is closely linked to the Hox4 complex in that species also, but is transcribed in the opposite direction.
