TEXT

Cloning and Expression

Heguy et al. (1986) could detect high levels of MT1B expression only in human hepatoma and renal carcinoma cell lines. They found that the 5-prime flanking region of the gene is highly methylated in nonexpressing cell types but is not methylated in an expressing hepatoma cell line, suggesting to them that tissue expression specificity of MT1B is controlled by a cis-acting mechanism involving methylation of the gene's 5-prime regulatory sequences.

Gene Structure

Heguy et al. (1986) determined that the MT1B gene is composed of 3 exons.

Mapping

Karin et al. (1984), West et al. (1990), and others have mapped the locus containing the MT1 gene family to chromosome 16q13.
