HKR4 was one of several partially characterized zinc finger genes identified by Ruppert et al. (1988) that are related to the GLI protooncogene (GLI; 165220) and are members of the Kruppel-related gene family.
Ruppert et al. (1988) mapped the HKR4 gene to chromosome 8.
Kas et al. (1996) assigned the GLI4 gene to 8q24.3 by fluorescence in situ hybridization. They demonstrated that it is situated distal to MYC (190080).
