Adachi et al. (1992) identified a protein-tyrosine phosphatase expressed in pre-B cells by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction technique. Adachi et al. (1992) reported the sequence of the full-length cDNA of this leukocyte PTP (PTPN7) and showed that the mRNA was predominantly expressed in hematopoietic cells. Leukocyte PTP, which Adachi et al. (1992) referred to as LC-PTP, showed 53.8% nucleotide sequence similarity in the catalytic domains to leukocyte-common antigen (LCA; 151460).
By fluorescence in situ hybridization, Adachi et al. (1992) mapped the PTPN7 gene 1q32.1 where chromosomal deletions are observed in non-Hodgkin lymphomas. Because PTPN7 and LCA are predominantly expressed in hematopoietic cells and both genes map to 1q32, Adachi et al. (1992) suggested that the 2 genes probably arose from a common ancestral gene and the transcriptional machinery of the 2 genes may be similarly regulated.
