De Ronde et al. (1988) showed that human fibroblasts derived from persons with deletions in the short arm of one chromosome 11 were susceptible to morphologic transformation by early region BK virus DNA, whereas diploid human fibroblasts were not. They suggested that this difference in susceptibility to transformation might be explained by a putative 'transformation suppressor' locus situated within the deleted region on 11p. The 4 individuals studied had various combinations of aniridia, mental retardation, genitourinary abnormalities, Wilms tumor, or deletion of 1 catalase locus. Two of their 4 subjects were sibs.
