HGNC Approved Gene Symbol: ZNF8
Cytogenetic location: 19q13.43 Genomic coordinates (GRCh38): 19:58,278,955-58,302,791 (from NCBI)
The zinc finger DNA-binding motif is found in a variety of transcriptional regulatory proteins. By screening a placenta library with the zinc finger-encoding region of the HF10 (ZNF35; 194533) cDNA, Lania et al. (1990) isolated a ZNF7 (194531) cDNA and a partial ZNF8 cDNA. The predicted ZNF8 protein contains 7 zinc finger domains. Northern blot analysis revealed that ZNF8 is expressed as 2.2- and 11-kb mRNAs in various human cell lines.
By in situ hybridization, Lania et al. (1990) mapped the ZNF8 gene to chromosome 20q13. However, Gross (2011) mapped the ZNF8 gene to chromosome 19q13.43 based on an alignment of the ZNF8 sequence (GenBank BC039323) with the genomic sequence (GRCh37).
