Ladinin is an anchoring filament protein of basement membrane at the dermal-epidermal junction. Human ladinin is an autoantigen associated with linear IgA disease (summary by Motoki et al., 1997).
Motoki et al. (1997) cloned mouse ladinin-1, which encodes a 528-amino acid polypeptide that contains a secretory signal sequence, several putative glycosylation sites, and 6 SEK motifs which may participate in macromolecular interactions. Northern blot analysis revealed that the approximately 2.5-kb mouse Lad1 mRNA is expressed in keratinocytes but not in fibroblasts. It is also expressed in a variety of mouse tissues.
By fluorescence in situ hybridization, Motoki et al. (1997) mapped the mouse ladinin-1 gene to chromosome 1 in a region syntenic with human chromosome 1. They cited unpublished data mapping the human ladinin-1 gene to chromosome 1q25.1-q32.3.
