[1] The receptor for interleukin 15 consists of one specific subunit -
alpha, which is required for high affinity IL15 binding, and two
non-specific subunits (GEM:22q13/IL2RB;
GEM:0Xq131/IL2RG), which are
essential for signal transduction and may bind (with low affinity) not
only IL15 (GEM:04q31/IL15) but IL2 (GEM:04q2/IL2) as well.
[2] The cytoplasmic domain of IL15R-alpha, like that of IL2R-alpha, is dispensable for mitogenic signaling, suggesting that the primary role of the alpha chains is to confer high affinity binding (Anderson-1995). Furthermore, the IL15RA and IL2RA (GEM:10p1/IL2RA) genes have a similar intron-exon organization and are closely linked in genome." |
