HIS

The uncertainty of data on number and localization of THR genes was began with the report of Gosden-1986, where probe ERBA2 (now THRB) was shown to hybridize in situ with two sites on chr 17 - q21.3 and q25, while all consequent studies mapped THRB(ERBA2) to chr 3p. However, Weinberger-1986 demonstrated the existence of about five or six THR genes, of which three (those for beta receptor) being located in chr 3 and the remaining (those for alpha receptor; they are characterized by a longer mRNA, about 5kb) being located in chr 17. In general, this agrees with the original data (Jansson-1983) on the existence of two classes of ERBA(THR) sequences in the human genome, one of the classes having more than one copy."
