Originally, this gene was erroneously identified (McBride-1987) as the gene for thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) receptor (which is now mapped to the long arm of chr 14; see GEM:14q31/TSHR). However, detailed study of the respective cDNA (Chan-1989) revealed that it codes not for TSH receptor but for a poorly studied yet thyroid hormone, autoantigens against which occur in some types of lupus erythematosis (Reeves,Sthoeger-1989). The functions of four other nucleotide sequences, which were found using the same cDNA probe (McBride-1987) and mapped to different chromosomes (GEM:01q/TAKUL1, GEM:08^/TAKUL2; GEM:10^/TAKUL3; GEM:0Xq/TAKUL4), remain unknown." |
