The cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases (PDEs) regulate the cellular
concentrations of cyclic nucleotides and thereby play a role in signal
transduction. PDEs have been divided into families based on substrate
specificity, affinity, sensitivity to cofactors, and sensitivity to
inhibitory drugs:
(1) Ca(2+)/calmodulin-dependent; (2) cGMP-stimulated; (3) cGMP-inhibited (GEM:00.0/PDE3A; GEM:11p15/PDE3B); (4) cAMP-specific; (5) cGMP-specific; (6) photoreceptor; (7) high-affinity, cAMP-specific." |
