The amino acid sequence of this protein is shown to be highly homologous to that of apolipoprotein(a), the gene for the latter (see GEM:06q27/APOLPA) being closely linked to the PLG gene. APOLPA is involved in the pathogenesis of the atherosclerosis and coronary disease."
