Gene: [19p12/PAR4] proteinase activated (protease-activated) receptor 4;

COM

The PAR4 gene was mapped to 19p12 by FISH (Xu-1998).

FUN

Studies with PAR-activating peptides suggest that PAR4 functions in human platelets, which implies that an analogous dual-receptor system operates in humans as well as in mice. The identification of a 2-receptor system for platelet activation by thrombin has important implications for the development of antithrombotic therapies (Xu-1998)."
