Gene: [04q13/HTN1] histatin 1 (histidine rich salivary protein 1); salivary protein, histatin 1 (histidine rich); [HIS1 SPFHTN1 ]

COM

Sabatini-1989 concluded that the histatin protein family is encoded by at least two closely related loci. vanderSpek-1989 assigned the HTN1 and HTN3 (GEM:04q13/HTN3) genes to Chr 4q13 within 15kb of each other."

FAG

[1] The main salivary protein gene cluster is located in Chr 12p (see FAM:SPF12P/12p132), where there are possibly two genes coding for other histidine-rich salivary proteins; although in the MIM catalogue a suggestion is made that at least one of them (see GEM:12p132/SPFGR2) is related to this or another gene in Chr 4.
[2] It is notable that in Chr 4q1 two markers are mapped that is related with a maxillary pathology probably accounted for by disturbances in the turnover of salivary proteins, including statherin (GEM:04q1/DGI; GEM:04q1/JPD; and GEM:04q1/STATH)."
